Senior curriculum

At Dame Allan’s Schools, learning is designed to inspire. Pupils explore a rich and ambitious range of subjects that extend well beyond the National Curriculum. We balance academic rigour with the flexibility to explore, giving pupils both deep subject knowledge and the confidence to think independently.

Core subjects such as maths, English and the sciences are taught by experienced teachers who deepen understanding and nurture intellectual confidence, while a strong languages provision — including Spanish, French, German and Latin — sits alongside computing, design and technology, and a full complement of humanities, including history, geography and religious studies, often enriched through field trips and real-world learning.

A vibrant arts programme, encompassing music, art, drama and dance, together with practical life skills in PSHEE and food technology, ensures every pupil can stretch themselves, discover new interests and thrive academically, creatively and personally.

Our approach

Pupils learn as individuals at Dame Allan’s, with expert teachers providing tailored support and development opportunities. Learning is structured so that skills and understanding develop progressively, giving pupils the strong foundations they need before moving on to more complex topics and preparing them for GCSEs, A Levels and beyond.

Lessons are enriched through cross-curricular thinking and real-world application — from fieldwork in geography and science, to practical investigations in laboratories, design projects in technology, performance and exhibition in the arts, and enterprise challenges that develop problem-solving and teamwork. In PSHE and enrichment lessons, pupils learn life skills, such as media literacy, managing money, navigating healthy relationships, and more. Learning is constantly evaluated to ensure pupils have the best possible foundation for their future – for example, our dedicated AI lead ensures that Dame Allan’s community are at the forefront of impactful and responsible artificial intelligence usage.

Co-curricular opportunities in sport, the arts and leadership allow pupils to apply their learning in authentic contexts, growing in confidence as well as capability. By combining academic studies with meaningful experience, we ensure every child is engaged, motivated and ready to take ownership of their learning.

Attributes for Success

At the heart of our curriculum in our Senior School is the development of four Attributes for Success:

We are

Respectful

Pupils cultivate care, consideration and high moral standards within the school community.

We are

Motivated

A proactive give it a go attitude encourages initiative and perseverance.

We are

Strategic

Pupils learn to plan ahead, think critically and manage their learning effectively.

We are

Meta-thinkers

The ability to reflect on one’s own thinking promotes independent learning and self-awareness. Our pupils are academically brave.

Alongside these, we nurture resilience, bravery, independence and problem-solving, ensuring pupils are confident, adaptable and ready for a rapidly changing world.

By embedding these attributes across academic lessons, co-curricular activities and pastoral support, Dame Allan’s develops well-rounded learners equipped to succeed and lead in whatever they pursue.

Supporting Every Learner

At Dame Allan’s, pastoral care is not just a supporting feature, it is a defining strength.
