GCSE students at Dame Allan’s Schools in Newcastle are once again celebrating their excellent results. The Schools are thrilled that 34 students achieved all A* and A grades, continuing the excellent streak of results achieved year on year and giving the Boys’ School its best ever results.
Two of those high achievers are twins Tom and Dan Brewer, both of whom received all A* and A grades. They collected their results after enjoying a busy summer break which saw Dan take part in an NCS charity project raising money for the West End Food Bank and Tom travel to Costa Rica and Nicaragua as part of the educational adventure organisation World Challenge.
Both of the boys will go in to the Sixth Form at Dame Allan’s, also continuing their involvement in the Royal Marines Combined Cadet Force, which was launched at Dame Allan’s earlier this year.
Tom said: ‘I’m ecstatic with our results! We worked really hard and it all paid off, we were able to enjoy a brilliant summer and this is a brilliant end to it. We’re really looking forward to going in to the Sixth Form at Dame Allan’s, it’s going to be great.’
The number of all A* A results demonstrate the benefits of the Diamond Structure of the Schools and bucks the national trend of a dip in GCSE passes. Dame Allan’s teaches in single sex classes form Years 7 – 11 whilst students are studying for their GCSE examinations. This provides the academic benefits of single sex education, combined with the social advantages of co-education.
Ellie Hutton also achieved all A* and A grades and said: ‘I’m really relieved, I was a bit worried yesterday but now I’m really proud and can’t wait to start in the Sixth Form!’ Ellie will go on to study biology, chemistry and French at A Level.
Dr John Hind, Principal at Dame Allan’s Schools said: ‘Once again our students have achieved excellent results, with the Boys’ School getting its best ever results. Every year we see how hard our students work and there are so many individual successes this year, we are very proud of them all.’
