History

History at Dame Allan’s brings the past into sharp focus, helping pupils understand how the world they inhabit has been shaped. In Years 7–9, pupils explore British and regional history from 1066 to 1945, alongside Britain’s changing role on the global stage.

At GCSE and A Level, history is a demanding and popular choice, highly regarded by universities for the intellectual discipline it develops. Pupils learn to construct well-supported arguments, interrogate evidence, recognise bias and form independent judgments — skills that translate into a wide range of careers.

Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Co-curricular opportunities include History Club, the Archivists’ Society and regular field trips across the North East, as well as visits to Northern France, Berlin and New York/Washington, allowing pupils to engage directly with the places and stories they study.
