It is possible for anyone to apply for a place at Dame Allan’s Schools. As an academically selective school, children must complete an assessment. The form of the assessment is dependent on the year of entry.

We accept pupils into most year groups, subject to availability.  The exception is entry into Year 11 and Year 13, when students are part way through their GCSE and A Level studies. 

 

To apply for a place at Dame Allan's, you must complete our application form online or alternatively contact the Admissions team who will gladly send you out a copy of the prospectus. You can also download and print off a copy of the application form to complete by hand and send to us by post.

It is possible to apply at any time, but we recommend that you apply at least a year in advance.  

For example, if you are looking for your son or daughter to join Dame Allan’s in September 2025, we recommend that your application is submitted in September 2024. 

 

We accept applications part way through the year, subject to availability.  

Please note: Candidates applying mid-way through the year will not be eligible for financial support. 

 

In Key Stage One, the maximum number of children in a class is 15.  In Key Stage Two, this increases to 20 children in a class. In the Senior Schools, the maximum number of children in a class is 24. 

 

The Schools help to provide a wide range of transport choices for pupils, before and after school. Several of the services are managed by specialist school transport management company, Vectare. Wrap around care is available at both the Junior School and Senior Schools sites from 7.45am until 5.45pm.

 

Thankfully prospective parents and students can now visit the schools in person again! We would recommend that you come to one of our open day events. However, we recognise that those dates may not always be suitable for everyone so we are happy for you to make an appointment to visit us at at a time more convenient for you. Please contact the admissions office to arrange a meeting with either the Principal, Mr Scott, or the Head of the Junior School, Mr Laidler. 

 

The timing of any assessment is dependent on the year group for which you are applying. 

Junior School and Nursery 

There is no set date for the assessment for entry into Nursery, Reception and Years 1 - 6. The assessments take place during the school day and are arranged through the admissions office.

Years 7, 8 and 9

The entrance exam dates for entry into Years 7 - 9 are: 

Dame Allan’s Boys’ School - Saturday 11 January 2025

Dame Allan’s Girls’ School - Saturday 25 January 2025

Year 10 

There is no set date for the entrance exam for entry into Year 10. The exam takes place during the school day and is arranged through the admissions office.

Year 12

There is no set date for the interview for entry into the Sixth Form. The interview takes place during the school day and is arranged through the admissions office.

Registered applicants applying for places in 7, 8 and 9 are provided with some sample questions as part of a familiarisation exercise ahead of the assessments. Sample papers are not available for any other entry point. 

We have specialist learning support teachers at both the Junior School and Nursery and at the Senior Schools.

Ahead of any entrance assessments, we work with parents/guardians to ensure the appropriate support is in place on the day of the assessment.

There is a registration fee of £30 per application. This is non-refundable and should be made payable by cheque or by bank transfer (BACS).
