Junior curriculum

At Dame Allan’s Junior School, learning is designed to spark curiosity and creativity. We provide an enriched learning environment, where a focus on the development of core skills in numeracy, literacy and science is supported by a curriculum which encourages innovation, whilst striving for the highest academic standards.

Drama, art, history, geography, French, music, IT, and a broad PE and games curriculum ensure that our curriculum is dynamic, engaging and inspiring. Key skills, like digital literacy and age-appropriate careers information, are also woven though the curriculum from the very first days at school.

Our approach

Pupils learn as individuals at Dame Allan’s, with expert teachers providing tailored support and development opportunities. Learning is structured so that skills and understanding develop progressively, giving our young pupils the strong foundations they need, as well as offering them the chance to explore their passions.

Lessons are enriched through cross-curricular thinking and real-world application — from fieldwork in geography, to practical investigations in STEM, performance and exhibition in the arts, and the chance to learn about and explore nature in the Woodland Ways. Regular PSHE and wellbeing sessions help pupils to learn more about key life skills and the importance of emotional health, as well as physical health.

Co-curricular opportunities in sports, music, art and more allow pupils to apply their learning in authentic contexts, growing in confidence as well as capability. By combining academic studies with meaningful experience, we ensure every child is engaged, motivated and ready to take ownership of their learning.

Our mission statement

Our aims for each child are:

  • to maximise their learning potential
  • to ensure that they are supported and motivated to work towards becoming an independent learner – learning skills for life rather than the next exam or test
  • to ensure they are happy to attend school, engage in lessons, make friends, learn and respect the happiness of others
  • to ensure that they grow in both confidence and self-esteem. A feeling of self-worth underpins how we interact with society
  • to encourage individuality – but we also want them to be balanced in their outlook.

Supporting Every Learner

At Dame Allan’s Junior School, pastoral care is not just a supporting feature, it is a defining strength.
