Learn more about our pastoral care, and how we support our pupils
Our SEND provision is built around early identification, close partnership with families and practical, personalised support that helps pupils achieve their very best both academically and socially. Our specialist SENDCo team works closely with teachers, parents and pastoral staff to ensure that each child receives the right support at the right time.
The best thing to do is to let us know about your child’s needs during the application process, so we can work with you to put together a plan to see how Dame Allan’s might work for them.
All pupils joining the Schools complete a range of age-appropriate assessments, such as literacy, processing speed, colourblindness screening, and dyslexia screening. This allows us to identify strengths, spot any barriers to learning early and put appropriate support in place from the start.
SEND Referrals can also come from teachers or families at any point. Where additional help is needed, we create a personalised pupil profile that shares strategies and practical guidance with staff, ensuring consistent support across every lesson.
SEND support extends beyond the classroom. Pupils may access small-group interventions, literacy support, social skills clubs and transition support, as well as wellbeing spaces.
Our therapy dogs provide weekly animal-assisted sessions, helping pupils feel calm and confident, whilst our dedicated wellbeing spaces (The Snug and The Cosy Snug) offer a quiet, supportive environment for counselling, learning support, and quiet work. It should be noted that we do not have classroom assistants, except in Early Years.
We believe the most meaningful change begins by listening to the pupils themselves. Led by Assistant SENDCo and EAL Coordinator Mrs Lopes-Mulhearn, our Senior School SEND Ambassadors programme empowers pupils with special educational needs and disabilities to shape the support and culture around them.
Meeting every other week, ambassadors discuss equality and inclusion, share their lived experiences and work together to plan awareness events and initiatives across the school.
From delivering pupil-led talks to advising on classroom practice and wellbeing support, the group plays an active role in helping us continually improve provision. Their insights ensure that decisions are informed by those who know the challenges best — our pupils.
