All 14 pupils who sat GCSE German at Dame Allan’s Schools have achieved top marks between grade 9 and 7 – the equivalent of A* and A grades.
Collectively, the group secured seven grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s, highlighting the strength of the Schools’ languages department.
Heather Borland, Head of German, said: “What a great finale for our Germanists after four years of study! They are exceptional girls and boys with a first-class work ethic, so it comes as little surprise that they have achieved so highly.”
Among those celebrating was Alex Richards, from Cramlington, who achieved an 8 in German within a strong set of GCSEs, including 9s in chemistry and design and technology. He said: “I’m really happy with my results. I had such amazing support from Frau Borland – she was so helpful – and I think the whole languages department is exceptional.”
Bella Newton, from Newcastle, who earned a grade 7 in German, said: “I’m really proud of my results, especially my grade in German. Frau Borland rarely spoke in English – it was always German – so the second you walked into her classroom it felt immersive. I’ve loved learning the language and visiting Cologne and Berlin. Even though I’m not taking a language at A Level, I definitely want to keep speaking German.”
Principal Will Scott said: “A huge congratulations – or should I say Herzlichen Glückwunsch – to our German pupils, who have performed outstandingly well this year. Their results are a wonderful reflection of the energy, passion and excellence that thrives in our languages department.”
