Success for Dame Allan’s at latest round of debate competition

Congratulations to our Senior School debate team, Emily, Libby and Imogen, who won the local round of the English-Speaking Union (ESU) Schools’ Mace on Monday 20 January 2020.

This win takes them through to the regional round of the competition – the furthest Dame Allan’s have got to in the Schools’ Mace in recent times.

Hosted at the Senior Schools in Fenham were teams from King Edward’s School in Morpeth, the Newcastle Royal Grammar School and Wensleydale School and Sixth Form.

Two debates took place, both sparking fierce debate with excellent points made by both the proposition and the opposition.

First debate:  ‘This house regrets the commercialisation of Pride’

Proposition: Newcastle Royal Grammar School

Opposition: The Wensleydale School & Sixth Form

Second debate: ‘This house would make vaccinations compulsory’

Proposition: Dame Allan’s Schools

Opposition: King Edward VI School, Morpeth

We would also like to congratulate the Wensleydale School team, who won their debate against the RGS.
