Peter hits the high notes with results

Music star Peter Qiang is celebrating exceptional GCSE results, as he discovers he obtained seven 9s, an 8 and a 7 with an A** in Further Maths.

Peter is an accomplished pianist, winning the Worsley Award from Future Talent in 2018. As such, he is an active member of Dame Allan’s Schools music scene, performing at events such as Speech Day and the Spring Concert. He also regularly practices on the piano in the Newsom Hall – much to the delight of the staff in the School Office and anyone waiting in the Reception area.

Added to his prowess as a musician, his GCSE examination results reflect well on Peter’s determination and ability as he is also hearing impaired.

Currently in China this summer, Peter said: “I was thrilled and so thankful to the school when I saw the report!

“In the past two years, the staff at Dame Allan’s have provided so much academic support and always have different approaches to make studying interesting.

“For example, my geography teacher Mr Etherington, used a wide range of media sources such as videos and photos to present what is happening around the world. Also, I was so happy to spend time in Mr Evans’ physics lessons as he is really humorous and erudite, which kept me relaxed while under exam pressure.

“My French teacher Mme Cedeyn delivered many listening exercise sessions in order to improve my French listening skills. Mr Lynch, who is my English teacher, provided lots of inspiring advice towards writing and thoughtful ideas towards different aspects of a text.

“My music teacher Mrs Blazey is so kind and has helped me a lot with essay writing in music and also making clear all the points within the set works we studied. Mr Smith taught me how to compose my own music, which I knew nothing about before, and providing support as I worked on my coursework.

“My teachers have also provided plenty of extension resources and encouraged me to learn further and broaden my horizons.

“Mrs Taylor also began giving me Further Math questions in Year 10 whilst ensuring I had the knowledge required for normal GCSE maths. Near the end of the GCSE course, she also motivated me to start studying A Level content.

“In science, Dr Tuck and Mrs Winton were always patient with all my questions and were always happy to provide articles to keep me updated with the new discoveries and science news.

“All of this has instilled a desire to have a deeper knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths, which I will continue at A Level in the Sixth Form.”
