Newcastle Students Engineer A Level Success

A group of talented Sixth Form students have today (17th August) taken their first steps in a challenging engineering career by picking up stellar A Level results at Dame Allan’s Schools, in Newcastle.

Joe Fletcher, Lucy Marsden, Tom Pattison and Toby Dickinson, all 18-years-old, will soon be taking on a range of engineering disciplines at universities around the UK.

Lucy from Gosforth, will be heading to Newcastle University to study Mechanical Engineering, and hopes in the future to specialise in biomechanical engineering with a career in the healthcare industry. “I’m really injury-prone!” explained Lucy, “I dislocated my elbow three weeks before my A Level exams, and family members have had some health struggles over the past few years. I’ve become fascinated with medical tech and I’d love to come up with the next breakthrough in medical technology.”

Joe, from Whickham, is a passionate footballer who has played throughout his time at Dame Allan’s, and will be studying General Engineering at the University of Sheffield. He said: “I choose to study engineering based on my A Levels and subject interests, I knew it would be a great career that I could use my skills in. Everyone at Dame Allan’s is so friendly, I have made some great mates here!”

Completing the quad of future engineers, Toby, from Hexham, will be heading to the University of Bath to study Robotics Engineering, whilst Tom, who is also from Whickham,  will be staying local and studying Chemical Engineering at Newcastle University.

Will Scott, Principal at Dame Allan’s Schools, commented: “It’s wonderful to see Joe, Lucy, Tom and Toby succeed in their ambitious goals to become engineers. It is a great testament to the STEM provision at Dame Allan’s, which has recently been bolstered with the addition of several state-of-the-art laboratories in our new Jubilee Building. I wish them all well in their future engineering careers.”
