L-R Amy and Megan ForbesÂ
Â
There are double celebrations for a Dame Allan’s family this week, as sisters Megan and Amy Forbes both celebrate their recent exam success.
Megan Forbes today received an impressive set of grade 9-8 GCSE results at Dame Allan’s, just one week after her sister Amy shone in her A Levels, gaining A*s in History and Geography and a B in A Level Chemistry.Â
Sixteen-year-old Megan, a pupil at Dame Allan’s Girls’ School, plans to study History, Psychology and Politics when she moves into Dame Allan’s co-educational Sixth Form next month. She will be following in the footsteps of her older sister, who will be leaving the Sixth Form behind to study Geography at the University of Nottingham in September. Â
The two sisters returned to school together to collect Megan’s results, along with parents Helen and Gareth Forbes and younger brother Owen, who is also a pupil at Dame Allan’s – he will be entering Year 10 at Dame Allan’s Boys’ School in September.Â
Speaking about her results, Megan said: “I feel amazing and relieved… It has been stressful! I’m looking forward to taking a couple of new subjects at A Level.”
Supportive sister Amy added: “It has been a tough time with us both, so I’m very pleased with our results.”
Parents Helen and Gareth spoke of their pride: “They’ve both worked so hard. The years through Covid were obviously difficult but they’ve managed to keep going and we are really happy for them.”
Will Scott, Principal at Dame Allan’s Schools, said: “It’s been a fantastic year for our Year 11 pupils across the Boys’ and Girls’ Schools and they should feel very proud of their achievements.Â
“Megan is one of our high-flyers coming into the Sixth Form and we look forward to seeing her continue to flourish over the next two years.”
Dame Allan’s Schools are the only schools in the North East following the ‘diamond structure’ of education, which combines both coeducational and single-sex education. Boys and girls are educated together in the Junior School, separately between the ages of 11 and 16, and together again in the Sixth Form.
