Many high-achieving Dame Allan’s leavers are heading to leading UK universities to study engineering, with four set to specialise in aerospace engineering.
The students have secured places at universities including Sheffield, Bath and Durham and will study a broad range of disciplines including Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical and General Engineering.
Among them is Cerys S, who achieved four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics and will study Aerospace Engineering at the University of Sheffield.
She said: “I’m really happy with my grades. I was surprised because the Physics paper was particularly difficult!
“I’m excited to study aerospace engineering. I’ve always been fascinated by space, especially more recently with the bigger space missions like Artemis, and I’m looking forward to getting more hands-on with the subject. It’d be a dream to work in the industry.”
She will be joined at Sheffield by Rachel B, who achieved A*s in Maths and Physics and an A in Chemistry and will study Mechanical Engineering.
Rachel, who joined Dame Allan’s Junior School in Reception, said: “I’m feeling really good and happy about my results.
“I’ve always been interested in Maths, and with Mechanical Engineering there’s such a broad range of things you can go into. When I was at school, I went to a Women in Engineering event that was really interesting and made me think about engineering as a future career.
“I’m not sure what my dream is yet, but I’m interested in motorsport, so it will be exciting to see where it takes me.”
Demand for engineering and technology degrees continues to grow nationally. UCAS reported a 13 per cent rise in applications to Engineering and Technology courses among UK 18-year-olds in 2025, while the number of applicants placed on courses in the subject increased by 12.5 per cent to 30,020 – the largest percentage rise of any subject group.

What’s particularly encouraging is the range of engineering disciplines they’re going into and the fact that they’re heading to some of the country’s leading universities.
“We want our pupils to understand where their subjects can take them, so we give them opportunities to hear from people working in the sector, visit workplaces and see engineering beyond the classroom. It’s great to see that interest now turning into university places and future career ambitions.”
