Philosophy – A level

Philosophy is a challenging and stimulating A Level that develops clear thinking, careful argument and intellectual confidence. The course is well-suited to pupils who enjoy questioning assumptions, analysing ideas and debating complex issues with precision.

Pupils explore fundamental questions about knowledge, ethics, mind and belief, learning how philosophers have approached them and how to construct their own well-reasoned responses. Teaching in the department is discussion-focused and intellectually demanding, encouraging pupils to think independently while engaging critically with others’ ideas.
