Latin

Latin is an important part of Dame Allan’s Schools’ curriculum, offering pupils a broad foundation in language, literature and critical thinking. All pupils study Latin in Years 7 and 8, before choosing it as an option alongside modern languages from Year 9. A Level Latin is offered in the Sixth Form.

The study of Latin strengthens English vocabulary and grammar, provides insight into the Romance languages and develops logical thinking and analytical skills. Pupils also explore the influence of Roman society and culture, connecting ancient history to the modern world.
