English

English at Dame Allan’s Schools develops confident communicators, thoughtful readers and imaginative writers. From Year 7, pupils explore a rich range of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and spoken language, learning to read closely, express ideas clearly and enjoy the power of words in all their forms.

Lessons are lively and discussion-led, encouraging pupils to question, debate and develop their own interpretations. Alongside analytical study, there is space for creative writing and performance, helping pupils find their voice and build confidence in both written and spoken expression.

As pupils progress through the Senior School and Sixth Form, they engage with a broad range of heritage and contemporary texts, developing sophisticated reading, writing and research skills.
