English Literature – A level

A Level English Literature builds on the analytical foundations of GCSE, offering a rigorous and intellectually rewarding course. Pupils engage closely with a wide range of novels, plays and poetry, studying writers from Shakespeare and Keats to Oscar Wilde and contemporary authors, and exploring how language, form and structure shape meaning.

Teaching places strong emphasis on discussion, independent thought and critical precision. Pupils examine texts within their social and historical contexts and are introduced to key literary theories, including feminism, Marxism and ecocriticism, developing the confidence to form and defend well-judged arguments.
