Biology

Biology at Dame Allan’s is the study of life in all its complexity, offering pupils the opportunity to explore the natural world and engage thoughtfully with contemporary issues such as conservation, genetic engineering and antibiotic resistance. From Years 7–9, pupils build a strong foundation in biological knowledge while developing practical and investigative skills.

At GCSE, pupils can study Biology as a separate science or as part of Combined Science, depending on their strengths and interests. In the Sixth Form, A Level Biology challenges pupils to think analytically, design investigations and develop clear, extended scientific writing.

Practical work is central to the subject. Field studies in Northumberland, alongside biennial overseas expeditions with Operation Wallacea, give pupils first-hand experience of biodiversity and conservation, deepening understanding well beyond the classroom.
