Art and Design

Art and Design at Dame Allan’s is an inspiring and dynamic subject, taught in the School’s purpose-built art studios where pupils are given the time, space and encouragement to develop creativity and observation. Through the study of visual culture from different times and places, pupils learn to look closely, think independently and express ideas with confidence.

All pupils study Art at Key Stage 3, working across a wide range of media and techniques that build strong foundations and a genuine enjoyment of creative practice. At Key Stage 4, Art can be taken as a GCSE option, allowing pupils to deepen their skills in visual communication and analysis. Learning is enriched through visits to major cultural centres such as London, Paris and Barcelona.

At A Level, pupils develop personal and expressive responses to thematic enquiry through practical work in oil and acrylic paint, printmaking and graphic media. Projects are shaped through close guidance from specialist staff and assessed through a portfolio and externally set task. Many pupils progress to university courses in architecture, graphic design and other creative disciplines, preparing them for careers across the creative industries.
