Cricket
The Cricket Club has several boys’ teams – 1st XI, U15A and B, U14A and B, U13A-E, U12A-E - and the thriving girls’ programme has developed competitive girls’ teams at U13 and U15. On the cricket pitch pupils are encouraged to express their talents and develop their fundamental skills in fielding, batting and bowling. Matches are played against other schools in regular blocks in midweek fixtures and county cup matches. The regular fixture list includes matches against schools such as Durham, RGS, Kings Priory, Yarm and Ampleforth.
“l love having the opportunity to play and train with both the boys teams and the girls. I also love how supportive all the teachers have been when I have asked for time out to play county matches. Having the chance to play so much cricket with different people inside and outside school has made me a happier, more confident person. I was nervous to train with the boys to begin with but they were really welcoming and fun. Playing so much cricket has also allowed my skills to develop too.”
Zara, Year 8
At the Senior School we are privileged to have an astro wicket with 9 further grass wickets, 2 astro batting nets and numerous mini cricket pitches. We also have a partnership with Swalwell CC for U18 fixtures allowing pupils the opportunity to play on a first class wicket in a stunning rural setting.
Through the co-curricular timetable we run a winter nets programme in the sports hall, with access to a bowling machine, two indoor nets and the strength and conditioning suite.
Alongside our internal coaching staff, Ty Buckley, a level 3 ECB coach provides expert 1 to 1 and group coaching, with opportunities for all pupils to access. External coaches from Northumberland Cricket Board develop girls cricket with opportunities to play both indoor cup competitions and hardball fixtures.
