Dame Allan’s has a fine reputation for its sporting achievements at county, regional and national level. Numerous pupils have represented their county, region and nation, both during their time at the Schools and in their professional sporting careers after they have left. The Schools take great pride in offering a broad range of sporting opportunities for all pupils, irrespective of their abilities. Through our PE and games programme we want every pupil to develop their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Ultimately, to create confident and physically active youngsters with the necessary skills to be used throughout their whole lives.

Dame Allan’s is blessed with numerous onsite sporting facilities. Our latest addition is a new fitness suite designed to allow pupils to work on their strength and conditioning to improve their performances in their selected sports. The facilities are complemented by a group of knowledgeable and enthusiastic teachers and specialist coaches. A comprehensive and competitive fixture list runs across all major sports and all year groups, all year round. Additionally, the school runs a number of domestic, European and long haul international sports tours, including South Africa and Barbados. Further information on sport trips can be found on the trips and visits page of our website.

From beginner to elite athlete, we offer every pupil the opportunity to participate and develop in a wide range of sporting activities. The Schools' ‘major’ sports are rugby, hockey, netball, football and cricket but the range on offer extends to squash, athletics, tennis, badminton, basketball, rowing, cross-country, fencing, golf, swimming, table tennis and weight training/conditioning.

In addition, the Schools enjoy strong links and partnerships with several local and elite level sports clubs, including Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club, Newcastle Eagles Basketball, Newcastle University Hockey Club, Tyne United Rowing Club and the Northumberland Tennis and Squash club.

Being part of a sports team provides the opportunity to meet new friends, develop skills and find new passions. We value sport not only for the health and fitness benefits it provides but also for the values of enjoyment, discipline, resilience and teamwork. Our team of dedicated and passionate specialist teachers and professional coaches are on hand to provide high-quality tuition and guidance, helping each pupil fulfil their potential.

With so many sporting opportunities every pupil can find something they enjoy, whatever their ability. Indeed, many students find themselves excelling in a sport they would not otherwise have thought to try.
