Bright future in finance for Dame Allan’s student with JP Morgan placement

ASPIRING financier Abdul-Samad Mohammad is today celebrating his A Level results, having secured a highly sought-after degree apprenticeship with global investment bank JP Morgan.

The 18-year-old Dame Allan’s Schools student, who also had offers from top UK universities including UCL and Warwick, will take up the four-year opportunity that combines paid work in investment operations and finance with a BSc degree from the University of Exeter.

Abdul-Samad, from Jesmond, achieved A A B in A Level biology, chemistry and politics. He said: “I’m buzzing; I’m really excited to get started on my degree apprenticeship.”

Degree apprenticeships are an increasingly popular route for students who want to enter competitive industries while earning a degree and valuable work experience. Programmes at world-leading companies like JP Morgan attract thousands of applications each year, with places awarded to only the most exceptional candidates.

“When I got the phone call saying ‘We’d love to make you an offer,’ I couldn’t believe it. My parents were so happy, but I couldn’t have done it without their relentless support. I thought I’d go down the standard university route, so to get this opportunity was incredible,” said Abdul-Samad.

Throughout Year 13, Abdul-Samad dedicated time to researching apprenticeships and contacting current apprentices at JP Morgan to understand the application process and expectations. He was one of only a small number of students invited to an offer-holder day in April, and has stayed in touch with several of his future colleagues ever since.

“I’m excited to get stuck into the corporate world. It’ll be challenging, but it’s an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” he added. “I’d really encourage anyone thinking about a degree apprenticeship to go for it – be hardworking, be curious and don’t be afraid to message people on LinkedIn. I’d love to help others apply.”

Will Scott, Principal at Dame Allan’s Schools, said: “Abdul-Samad’s success reflects a growing shift in how talented students are carving out their futures. Degree apprenticeships like the one at JP Morgan are highly competitive and offer an exceptional route into industry – combining academic study with real-world experience at the highest level. We hope his journey inspires others to explore the diverse opportunities available beyond the traditional university path.”
