Glittering sports awards celebrates success

To celebrate the successes of the 2016 – 17 season, Dame Allan’s Schools in Newcastle held a Sports Awards Evening at the Newcastle Falcons at the end of the school year. The event was attended by over 250 people and celebrated the sporting achievements of students at Dame Allan’s, who represent the Schools, county and country in a wide range of sports.

Olympic medallist in badminton, Gail Emms MBE delivered a talk which was inspirational for both the students and adults, sharing her experiences of the positive influence that sports can have on life and well-being.

The Schools were delighted to present a number of awards, including Sportswoman of the Year which went to Ellie Kilner in Year 13 for her all round sporting contribution and Sportsman of the Year which went to Sam Aiston in Year 8 for his all round success, particularly on the squash court.

Mrs Caroline McBain, Director of Sport at Dame Allan’s said: ‘We have a huge number of talented and eager sports men and women at Dame Allan’s and it has been a pleasure to spend an evening celebrating their successes, drive and ambition. We encourage all of our students to aim high and try their best and this event shows what brilliant things they can achieve when they put their mind to it.’
