Netball

Netball clubs run across the Schools. In the Junior School, there is a session for Years 5 and 6. In the Senior Schools, sessions run for Years 7 and 8, Years 9 and 10 and Years 11-13. There are also weekly shooting practice sessions for pupils in Years 7-13.

Netball is the focus sport in the Spring Term and we are fortunate to have many girls who regularly enjoy playing netball throughout the Schools. We have regular block fixtures with RGS, NHSG, Durham School, Austin Friars, Barnard Castle as well as weekly fixtures in the Tyne and Wear leagues. We also enter the Tyne and Wear City, TWSSA and Tri Area Tournaments for all age groups. Each year we enter U14, U16 & U19 teams into the National Schools County Tournament. We also enter the School Cup Magazine competition each year which gives students the opportunity to compete against other schools. The girls also have the opportunity to go on tours to play netball. This year the girls went to Belfast on a joint netball and hockey tour.

As well as our facilities at Dame Allan’s, which include two outdoor netball courts and one indoor court and our newly refurbished fitness suite, we use the Eagles Community Arena facilities daily for our games afternoons. This facility is a fantastic multi-purpose built sporting venue.

Many of our students play for local clubs such as Riverside, Novos and Seatonians. We have many girls across all year groups who are chosen for representative programmes at County/Satellite level. Just as importantly, many of our pupils continue to play netball at university once they have left Dame Allan’s.
