We aim to foster a life-long enthusiasm for learning

“The atmosphere and ethos of the (Junior) Department are such that pupils flourish. They are confident and enthusiastic.” ISI Report 2006

Dame Allan's Junior Department pupilsAt the heart of Dame Allan's Junior School is the belief that learning should be fun with plenty of lively activities, interesting visits and exciting projects.

Girls and boys can join Dame Allan's in the nursery from the age of three. The family atmosphere of the school and its traditional values ensure that children develop a sound base for their future success.

In the nursery and early years at Forest Hall the boys and girls aged from three to seven can flourish in the happy, relaxed domestic setting.

Pupils work in small classes and follow a wide and varied curriculum designed to meet the needs of the individual child. Pupils are encouraged to take part in a range of extra curricular activities.

When they reach Year 4, pupils transfer to the main schools’ site at Fenham. Here they can enjoy the benefits of the specialist staff and facilities of a large school while remaining secure within the friendly atmosphere of their own, small, familiar environment.

The aim is still to make learning fun, but it is focused on preparing the pupils for the transition to the senior Boys’ and Girls’ Schools. They follow a challenging and broad curriculum to equip them with a wide range of thinking and learning skills, augmented by a full programme of clubs and activities.

During their time in the Junior School pupils are inspired to follow a lifetime love of learning and the importance of respect for themselves, for each other, for adults and for their environment.
